Öğe Biomechanical behavior evaluation of resin cement with different elastic modulus on porcelain laminate veneer restorations using micro-CT-based finite element analysis(2023) Mert Eren, Meltem; Çelebi, Alper Tunga; İçer, Esra; Baykasoğlu, Cengiz; Mugan, Ata; Yücel, Taner; Yıldız, EsraThe aim of this study is to evaluate the biomechanical behavior of the porcelain laminate veneer restorations (PLV) of the maxillary central incisor luted with two types of resin cements having different incisal preparations: butt joint and palatal chamfer. Biomechanical analyses were performed using the micro-CT-based finite element models, and von Mises stress and strain values of the PLV, resin cement, adhesive layer, and tooth structure were computed. The PLV with butt joint preparation showed larger stress values than those of restored with palatal chamfer preparation, regardless of the elasticity of the cement and loading conditions. An increase in the elasticity modulus of the resin cement induced slightly larger stresses on the adhesive layer, tooth tissues, and restorative materials. Overall, this study demonstrates the role of the preparation design and luting materials on the mechanical behavior of the PLV restorations and discusses the potential failure mechanisms of the PLV restorations under different loading mechanisms.Öğe Comparison of Elasticity Modulus and Nanohardness of Various Dental Restorative Materials(Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, 2021) Ozan, Gunce; Mert Eren, Meltem; Yıldırım Bılmez, Zuhal; Tugce Gurcan, Aliye; Yucel Yucel, YaseminIntroduction: Restorative materials are under constant loadings from mastication hence, it is important to have the knowledge of structural properties of the restorative materials to have long-term success on restorations. Therefore, the aim is to compare the nanohardness and elastic modulus values of various restorative materials. Methods: Disc-shaped samples were prepared from a high viscosity glass ionomer-Equia Forte Fil (EFF), a compomer-Dyract (DXP), a hybrid ionomer-Geristore (GS), a giomer bulk-fill-Beautifil-Bulk (BB), two bulk-fill composites-Venus Bulk-fill (VB) and Sonic Fill 2 (SF), and a nanohybrid composite-Z250. Samples of each of the tested materials (n=9) were examined under nanoindentation to evaluate elasticity modulus (Er) and nanohardness (Hnano) scores. One of the samples had undergone through scanning electron microscopy (SEM) evaluation. Data were analyzed statistically using the Kruskal-Wallis test. Results: SF had the highest elasticity modulus, followed by Z250 and DXP, without any statistical differences. However, GS had the lowest elasticity modulus, followed by EFF (P<0.001). Among nanohardness scores, there is no significant difference between VB, EFF, DXP, Z250, and BB groups. While SF showed the highest, GS had the lowest nanohardness scores. SEM images showed the differences between filler sizes and shapes. Conclusion: Main structural differences between glass ionomer-based and resin-based materials determined significant differences among related parameters of the restorative materials. © 2021, Mashhad University of Medical Sciences. All rights reserved.Öğe Effect of surface sealant on the surface roughness of different composites and evaluation of their microhardness(2020) Gürbüz, Özge; Çilingir, Aylin; Dikmen, Benin; Özsoy, Alev; Mert Eren, MeltemPurpose The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of a surface sealant on the surface roughness of different composites and compare their microhardness values. Materials and Methods Sixty disc-shaped specimens were prepared and assigned to 6 groups (n =10). Groups were prepared as follows; Group 1 (Herculite XRV Ultra), Group 2 (Beautifil Bulk Restorative) and Group 3 (Filtek Bulk Fill Posterior Restorative). Groups 4, 5, and 6 were prepared by applying a surface sealant (BisCover LV) on the specimens in groups 1, 2 and 3. Surface hardness of the discs in group 1, 2, and 3 and surface roughness of the discs in all groups were measured using the Vickers hardness test and a profilometer, respectively. One-way ANOVA was used to test for differences among the groups. Results No significant differences were observed in the microhardness and roughness between the experimental and control groups for each restorative materials. Group 3 showed the highest surface hardness and group 4 showed the lowest surface roughness values. Conclusion Using the BisCover LV resin after the polishing step has no significant effect on the surface roughness. The highest hardness values were obtained for the Filtek Bulk Fill Posterior Restorative after the polishing step. The smoothest surfaces were obtained for all experimental groups using the BisCover LV resin after the polishing step, Herculite XRV Ultra showed lower average roughness values than the other materials.Öğe Perception of oral and dental health awareness and assessment of dental habits in preclinical dentistry students: A questionnaire study(2022) Gürcan, Aliye Tuğçe; Mert Eren, MeltemAim: The oral and dental hygiene behaviors of patients are affected by their dentists. Although dental students attend preclinical courses in their first and second years of education, they are expected to be knowledgeable about oral and dental health due to their future position as being role models for patients. In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the oral and dental health awareness and oral health habits of preclinical dental students. Material and Methods: 127 preclinical dental students were included in this study. A questionnaire consisting of 39 questions about oral-dental health habits and knowledge levels was prepared. The results were analyzed with the SPSS 22.0 software. A p-value of smaller than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Chi-squared and Mann-Whitney U tests were used for statistical analysis. Results: Frequency of daily tooth brushing, gingival bleeding, halitosis, toothpaste preference, satisfaction with tooth color and frequency of dental visits were found to be statistically significant. There was no significant difference between the 1st-year and 2nd-year student groups in terms of their responses to the questions (p> 0.05). A statistically significant difference was found between the male and female groups for their responses to the questions on topics such as toothpaste preference, satisfaction with the color of their teeth, frequency of dental examination, frequency of tooth cleaning and toothbrushing time (p <0.05). It was also found that the oral and dental awareness and dissatisfaction with teeth levels were higher in the female participants. Conclusion: It was observed that the 1st-year and 2nd-year participants had similar views regarding oral hygiene and attitudes since they had just started their vocational training. Awareness and knowledge levels are expected to increase with class year and as clinical courses progress.
