    Grammatical deviances in addresses inversions
(Turk Dil Kurumu, 2024) Ayan, Ahsen; Ünver Özdoğan, Hande
Addressing that have been frequently used in Turkish since the first written sources, are language units that convey a referent to the other person or people by means of addressing. These units, which vary according to people’s relationships such as age, gender, social status and kinship in communication, are inflected with various morphemes according to the mutual situations of the source and target within the context of the moment of utterance within the framework of the principle of the language vitality. However, it has been determined that some addresses encountered in Türkiye Turkish, especially in the recent period of spoken language, are not selected in accordance with the mutual roles of the source and the target at the time of communication and do not take the morphemes expected / required to be used by the source. In cases where the source addresses the target in his/her own role, sometimes a diminutive and always a possessive suffix is added to the address: anne(ciği)m, baba(cığı)m… In this study, focused on how these vocalizations, which appear to be grammatical deviations as well as role deviations, may have emerged in Türkiye Turkish. In Türkiye Turkish, this situation will be the proposition that it is a result of the law of least effort has been opened to discussion. The study aims to reveal the reasons of this situation, which can be considered as “mumpsimus”, by approaching the address inversion from a grammatical and semantic perspective.

Correspondence of Mustafa Kemal Pasha with his foster sister Saime Hanim
(Turkish Historical Society, 2024) Özkan, Kenan; Özer, Sevilay
While Mustafa Kemal Pasha was in Silvan, Diyarbakir, as the Commander of the 16th Corps of the 2nd Army, he received a letter dated July 15, 1916, signed by Your Foster Sister Saime, from Çengelköy, Istanbul. He responded to this letter dated October 26, 1916, beginning with the address My Sister, Lady. In biographical studies on Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, there is information that he had a wet nurse named Ümmügül, but there is no information about the existence of his foster sister. However, after the documents belonging to the Archives and Military History Department of the Ministry of National Defense were transferred to the Presidency State Archives, thanks to these letters obtained in the Atatürk Collection, it was revealed that Mustafa Kemal Atatürk had a foster sister. Mustafa Kemal Pasha continued his contact with Saime Hanim in the following period. It is understood from another archive document dated April 1923 that he provided financial aid to Saime Hanim. However, no archival documents or sources have been found indicating that Mustafa Kemal and Saime Hanim had direct or indirect contact in the following period. In biographical studies on Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the narratives about the first years of his life are mostly based on the stories of his mother Zübeyde Hanim and his sister Makbule Hanim. In this study, by examining the letters in question, an attempt has been made to add a new one to the recent document-based studies on Atatürk's private and family life.

1946 general elections: the case of Adana (Seyhan)
    (2023) Özer, Sevilay; Özkan, Kenan
The establishment of the Democrat Party on January 7, 1946 is of undeniable importance for the history of Turkish democracy. With the effect of the victory of the supporters of democracy in the Second World War, the opposition movement, which matured during the war years, resulted in the establishment of the Democratic Party in 1946. In fact, even though the National Development Party was founded in 1945, it could not really achieve the feature of being an alternative opposition party to the government. The fact that the general elections that should have been held in 1947 were pushed back a year ago, strained the power-opposition relations and highlighted the election held on July 21, 1946 as a "doubtful" election, and this brought greater debates in the political life. Despite these discussions, the 1946 General Elections were a turning point for Turkish democracy. With the new election law adopted on June 5, 1946, the majority system with open ballot, secret counting and list method was applied in the single-stage elections. The elections, which took place in a very active political atmosphere, were an important experience for both voters and parties. The DP frequently expressed the irregularities applied in these elections during its stay in the opposition and carried it to the election squares before the 1950 General Elections. In this article, the process of the 1946 General Elections in Adana, the competition of the parties with each other and the election results were tried to be examined.
