dc.description.abstract | Istanbul metropolitan politics and administration had been dominated by the central government to facilitate a capital accumulation regime through the construction sector under the hegemonic project of the AKP for the last two decades. However, a new metropolitan model is now being established in Istanbul under the rule of the secular CHP, supported by nationalist and pro-Kurdish voters. The new model, contrary to the AKP paradigm, rescales the urban politics at the metropolitan level with an inclusive discourse, and the municipal administration is enriched by participatory mechanisms to produce consent for a counter-hegemonic project. | en_US |
